Born in Slovakia, since 2012 based in Netherlands, where she has her studio. Dzuráková studied glass design at Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD) in Bratislava in Slovakia, as well as in the department of Metal and Jewel. Switching a direction in university education in 2006 emphasized in her work an unique handcrafted quality- her jewellery have modern sensibility; yet are honest to craft and old techniques.
After her graduation from Trier University of Applied Sciences in Germany (Gemstone and Jewellery Department) in 2012 Dzuráková started to work as an assistant of Estela Saez in Amsterdam in Netherlands.
“For my Graduation Work I received Art scholarsphip award for Young Professionals in Slovakia. That happened in 2011. I purchased custom- made machine for glass engraving and proper jewellery equipment. A five months later I did follow the internship at Jewellery Studio of Estela Saez in Amsterdam. I live and work in Netherlands since then.”
“In 2014, besides my regular job I began to work from my studio in Steenenkamer. I can work with metal and soon with glass (+ semi-precious stones). Glass engraving and stone cutting have an unique beauty and it’s very dear to me. Jewellery I make out of 925 sterling silver, for objects I use brass, copper and wood. Even none of these craft I wish to perform as a child because I wanted to be a fashion designer; the fact I like about it is, that each one allow me since the moment I sketch an idea, to use my hands. My workshop bench is definitely not the clean one and I operate propan torch, do work with acids, but my will is to create jewellery- that match the personality. And that stands not far from what I imagined in age of 10 designing clothes can be.”
“I like to think that women who wear my jewellery believe in artisanal craftsmanship and its dignity.”
Barbora Dzuráková took for 4 years a part ( since 2012) in Plateaus Jewellery Project: P. C. Domingues, K. Dettar, E. Tarín, that has shown her jewellery in Spain. Only shortly after exhibiting in Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands and USA.
