On Monday visited Bratislava.
Wished to see the city and brand new leather workshop VERBUA. Workshop founded in 2013 by Veronika Pikalikova and Bastien Boisanfray. The base productions of VERBUA are leather bags, wallets, belts; optionally products make upon a request.
Freshly furnished workshop in old industrial zone of capital of Slovakia seems to be a part of a building for at least 50 years. Huge old machines, various metal tools as carving knifes or cast-iron forms to cut rather small leather pieces; handmade cardboard boxes with delicate cast-iron handles, lots of decorative metal lines holding elegant clips with paper designs of bags, all are aged and fit the place… Originally were machines used in the workshop of Bastien’s father. He used to produce saddles and bags in France. All equipment was carefully moved to new studio at Kosicka street 37 in Bratislava.
You can not miss a great passion of Veronika nor Bastien when making a bag.
Both are “bonded” to an idea of producing a high quality leather pieces. Skillful using machinery and tools, brave knowledge about a material and sincere effort of founders VERBUA made the label and talented “makers”- ones to watch.
